Faith’s Journey to Recovery: From Despair to Hope

Faith, the second-born in a family of three, lives with her mother in Ndama village. Born without any disability, her life took an unexpected turn while she was in Standard Six. Her parents began to notice changes in her legs—but due to limited awareness of disability issues, they couldn’t understand what was happening.

In their quest for help, they sought solutions from various traditional healers, unaware of the need for proper medical diagnosis and intervention. Sadly, the delay in seeking professional help worsened her condition. Eventually, Faith became unable to walk.

Desperate and worried, the family took her to Nyakahanga Hospital. There, medical staff recommended a referral to an orthopedic specialist. However, due to financial constraints, the family could not proceed immediately with this recommendation, and Faith’s condition remained untreated.

In February 2024, a turning point came. Faith’s parents heard a radio program on disability awareness and early identification hosted by CBIDO. They reached out for help, and soon after, CBIDO intervened. The organization mobilized the community and family members to contribute toward the child’s medical care. She was referred to Kagondo Hospital, where she was admitted for 128 days due to the severity of her bilateral leg deformities.

Through intensive treatment and rehabilitation, Faith made a remarkable recovery. Today, she walks without support and can independently manage her daily activities—something that once seemed impossible.
